1. What is a boundary line tree?

A boundary line tree, or a “border tree” or a “line tree,” is a tree that’s growing on or near someone’s property line.

What’s “near” a property line can be a matter of disagreement. To make things simple at the start, however, we’ll just say a tree that’s “near” a property line is one that’s close enough to physically affect the neighbor’s property in some way.  That might be a branch that extends over the neighbor’s property or roots that reach into his land.
